Sony Mobile Communications is now planning a new approach in hopes that they would once again be dominant in this new battlefield for smartphones. Their new approach involves marketing a suite of devices instead of focusing on one "big" product. The company already started working on this strategy in the on-going Mobile World Congress 2012.

The Sony Xperia NXT series is the company's latest line that is being promoted in the market. More information was revealed during the Mobile World Congress 2012 because the company launched the newest addition to their Sony Xperia NXT line. The new additions in the series are Xperia P and Xperia U.

Sony described these new devices as the "next generation of smartphone design" because it has a "look that is easily recognizable". The company also added that "These smartphones have intriguing design features including the 'transparent element', a band that encircles the base of the phone and also integrates invisible antenna components. The transparent element illuminates when receiving calls, texts and notifications."

Sony Xperia P

The Xperia P sports an aluminum unibody design with a 4-inch Reality Display that is powered by the Mobile BRAVIA Engine so that it could provide razor-sharp clarity. The display also has a WhiteMagic display technology in order to provide an "ultra-bright and power efficient viewing experience". This smartphone measures 122 x 59.5 x 10.5 mm (4.8 x 2.3 x 0.4 in) and weighs 120 g (4.2 oz). As for its OS, it is currently utilizing Android Gingerbread and would eventually be upgraded to Android ICS.

Sony Xperia U

The Sony Xperia U is considered as the company's entry-level handset. The Xperia U measures 112 x 54 x 12 mm (4.8 x 2.1 x 0.5 in) and weighs 110 g (3.9 oz). It also has a smaller 3.5 inch screen with 854 x 460 pixel display, 1 GHz dual-core processor, 5MP camera (also able to capture HD video and 2D/3D panoramic images), DLNA connectivity, and NFC capability.
