Taylor Swift recalled how her friendship with Lorde started after the Kiwi teen insulted her in an interview. The U.S. songstress heard about the “Royals” hitmaker’s diss, but said it wasn’t even mildly offensive.

Speaking with Billboard magazine, the Woman of the Year revealed how she started being friends with the slightly younger musician. It can be recalled that when Lorde was still new to the international music industry, she was quoted saying things about other singers, including Lana Del Rey and Swift.

The 18-year-old New Zealand native called her now-BFF “so flawless and unattainable” in an interview with Metro magazine in 2013. Some people took her words as a diss to the country-turned-pop star, and so Lorde was forced to explain that she meant to describe Swift as perfect, which might let some fans to think they would never look as pretty as her.

“ts was the first prson i thought of, which i regret. she happens to be good looking, but i thinkshe actually uses her other imperfections in an incredibly powerful and relatable way,” (sic) she wrote on her Tumblr, adding that she could never be the kind of role model that Swift is for her fans.

Swift also heard about the alleged diss, but she didn’t find it even mildly insulting. She even thought Lorde calling her too perfect was “cute.”

“With Ella – Lorde – her album came out and I thought it was amazing, so I sent her flowers and congratulated her on a great first week. And I get this text message from one of our mutual friends, [Rookie editor/actress] Tavi Gevinson, and she says, ‘Lorde is freaking out because she said some stuff about you in an interview and she feels so terrible,’” Swift said.

“She essentially had said that I’m too perfect or something like that – something that did not even mildly offend me, that I thought was cute. She felt so bad about it, so I said, ‘It’s no big deal. We should hang out sometime,’” she continued, adding that they met in New York and ate at Shake Shack burgers before they were attacked by monster squirrels.

Her recollection of events matched Lorde’s during the latter’s interview with the “Tonight Show.” Lorde told host Jimmy Fallon that Swift sent her flowers to congratulate her on her success, and that they met at the New York eatery.

Meanwhile, Swift has one wish for her 25th birthday on December 13. She has recently been romantically linked by the media to her friend, Victoria’s Secret Angel Karlie Kloss, and Swift thinks people have got to stop with the non-sense.
