The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to get their act together on Sunday even without key defensive players as they try to slow down Peyton Manning and the high-powered Denver Broncos in Week 2 action of the National Football League (NFL) regular season.

The AFC West rivalry has been one-sided since Manning joined the Broncos, which are 4-0 against Kansas City with the star quarterback in the line-up.

The Chiefs lost to the Tennessee Titans, 10-26 in Week 1 and also lost Mike DeVito and Derrick Johnson to injuries. Losing key defensive players will hurt against Denver but Kansas City will gain a boost in offense with Dwayne Bowe back in uniform after a one-game suspension.

“Everybody knows we’ve got to pick up the slack,” James-Michael Johnson said via the Chief’s official website. “DJ and Mike DeVito, they’re both really good players. You can’t really go out there and try to be that person. Everybody’s just has to make a combined effort and lock in a little better.”

The Chief’s offense will center on star running back Jamaal Charles, who struggled in their last game versus the Titans with just 19 rushing yards on 7 carries.

"When you've got a top-tier guy getting seven (carries), something's not right. So he'll definitely get a lot of touches this week," Denver’s defensive tackle Terrance Knighton said via the Broncos’ official website anticipating Charles bounce-back effort.

While defense will be addressed, Denver’s offense will expectedly be towed by Manning, threw three touchdowns in the 31-24 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1. Manning is now 4 TDs away from Brett Favre’s NFL all-time record of 508 touchdown passes.

The Chiefs gave up 266 passing yards and 2 TD to Titans QB Jake Locker in the last game. Counterpart Alex Smith of Kansas City had 202 passing yards with 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions.
