Huawei is the common thread between these two beasts. The upcoming new phablet Huawei Mate 8, slated to be unleashed on Nov. 26 is ready take on Google’s Nexus 6P, for which the search giant collaborated with Huawei for the first time.

Display and design

Huawei Mate 8 is expected to be shipped with a 6-inch Quad HD display screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (490 pixels per inch) protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

In the meantime, Nexus 6P sports an all-metal body with 5.7-inch WQHD display screen. The screen comes with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels with slightly higher pixel density at 518 ppi. With the high resolution AMOLED panel Nexus 6P delivers better accuracy of display.

Processor and memory

Huawei Mate 8 will reportedly run on Huawei's own homegrown HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset, built on 16 nm FinFET technology and a big.LITTLE architecture. The chipset features a 64-bit octa-core processor. Its Cortex A57 quad-core processor clocks at 2 GHz and it has another four cores of Cortex A-72 clocked at 2.4 GHz. The powerful chip also has an ARM Mali-T880, an i7 coprocessor and a Tensilica Hi-Fi audio chip, reports Android Authority. The high-end chip will allegedly support Cat.10 4G LTE connectivity.

On the other hand , Nexus 6P runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 with four 1.55 GHz Cortex A-53 cores and another four 2.0 GHz Cortex A-57 cores coupled with an Adreno 430 GPU. In this regard, the Mate 8 seems to have won the battle.

The upcoming Huawei Mate 8 is purported to offer 3GB and 4GB of RAM paired with 32GB and 64 GB internal memory. However, Google’s big screen Nexus 6P has only 3 GB of RAM for all three versions with 32 GB, 62 GB and 128 GB storage options which cannot be expanded. Furthermore, the native memory of the Mate 8 can be extended up to 128 GB via microSD card slot.

Battery and Operating System

Though not confirmed by the company, the Huawei Mate is speculated to house a humongous 4,000 mAh battery as compared to the 3450 mAh non-removable battery of Nexus 6P. Again, it is rumoured that the much talked about touch-sensitive screen technology might adorn the Huawei Mate 8. The device is expected to be shipped with Android 5.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box, whereas Nexus 6P comes with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow preinstalled.

Camera

In this department, the Mate 8 seems to have an edge over the Nexus 6P. Google's latest phablet has a 12 MP camera at the back featuring an f/2.0 aperture and IR laser-assisted autofocus and LED flash. The Nexus 6P also touts Smartbust shooting capability and electronic image stabilization. On the other hand, the Huawei Mate 8 boasts a 21MP rear camera along an 8MP selfie snapper coupled with optical image stabilisation and dual-LED flash. As reported by Tech Times, the camera might also feature autofocus, touch focus and face detection capabilities.

Price

The Huawei Mate 8 with 32 GB RAM and internal memory will reportedly cost CNY 3,299 (AU$722 or US$520). And the 64 GB variant with 4 GB of RAM will come with a price tag of CNY 3,899 (AU$847 or US$610). Coming to the Nexus 6P, the 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variants are priced at AU$899, AU$999 and AU$1099 respectively in Australia and US$499, US$549 and US$649 respectively in the U.S.
