Huawei is likely to launch a new high end, extra large handset that is expected to succeed the 2014 Ascend Mate 7 on Sept. 2. The new handset is likely to be the Huawei Mate 8, as per unconfirmed reports.

A Chinese website first got its hands on the handset, which could be called the Mate 8. The website revealed a pair of renders that resembles the 2014 version of Huawei Mate 7, reports Digital Trends. The flash of the phone’s rear camera appears to have been repositioned and it stands above the fingerprint scanner, while the front camera is likely to get an LED flash of its own, reports Phonearena.com. According to the publication, the Mate 8 is likely to get a 6-inch display that is currently featuring in Mate 7. Other likely features include an octa-core Huawei Kirin 950 processor, 20 MP rear camera, 8 MP front camera and the Mate 7 is also expected to get two variants. While one version could be available with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of storage space, the other could come with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage space.

Digital Trends mentions that the screen size of Mate 8 will sport 2K, which means it could get a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The price of the phone is still unknown, however, it is not expected to be a cheap model, considering the Ascend Mate 7’s current rate in UK is £399.

Huawei and its expectation from Mate 8

On July 20, Huawei announced that it has generated 175.9 billion yuan (about $28.3 billion) in revenue in the first half of 2015, which is a 30 percent increase compared to the same period last year. According to a Reuters report, Huawei achieved stable and healthy growth in three business segments, namely, telecom, consumer device and enterprise business.

If the past performance of Ascend Mate 7 is to be given any cognizance then the Mate 8 has got higher possibilities to sell in China. But earlier this year, Zhiqiang Xu, president of the company’s U.S. division had discussed about the company’s ambitions beyond the country’s border, as 2015 would be important for Huawei to gain a foothold in the US markets.
