The Xiaomi Mi 5 launch date of Feb. 24 is close at hand, and for the first time, Xiaomi will be present at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) to unleash its newest flagship smartphone. Hugo Barra, Vice President of Xiaomi, has hinted that the new device will be capable of delivering blazing fast performance.

The rumor mill has been in overdrive since last year, claiming that the Snapdragon 820 will be present under the hood of the Xiaomi Mi 5. The phone also features a 64-bit quad-core Kyro processor and Adreno 530 graphics. Barra has even released a teaser video to show how fast the Xiaomi Mi 5’s performance will be.

The teaser video, though it does not show the Xiaomi Mi 5 at work, shows a 11-year-old boy called Xiao Lin Chen from China skipping at an incredible speed. Chen holds a world record for 1,096 skips in three minutes. The video has been posted on Facebook by Barra, along with the words:

“Forget everything you know about speed, #Mi5 will show you the meaning of fast in just 7 days now.”

Referencing the performance of the Xiaomi Mi 5, Barra's post indicates that the Snapdragon 820 SoC-powered Mi 5 will deliver an insane performance. Barra may also be referring to the speed of the Mi 5’s camera, which will be equipped with f/1.6 aperture lens and laser autofocus, Ubergizmo reported.

The newly announced LG G5 and Galaxy S7 are both powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. On AnTuTu, the LG G5 has the highest recorded score of 133,054. The second best on the list is the Galaxy S7 with a score of 116,668. However, the Galaxy S7 that is present on the AnTuTu list is powered by Exynos 8890 chipset and not Snapdragon 820.

Despite the hype, the Mi 5's true performance can only be determined after it is made available. The starting model of the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to cost around US$305 (AU$421).
