Google has chiefly designed the Nexus 6 as an iPhone 6 Plus killer on release date, which is shown in a new leaked picture of the supersized native Android smartphone.

Phablet-size Nexus 6

The device to replace the Nexus 5 was displayed sitting side by side with a phablet flagship, the LG G3, and the Motorola made handset clearly dwarfed over the G3 that already boasts of a 5.5-inch display panel, Droid Life said on its report.

The revelation came out following an earlier claim by 9to5Google this week that the Nexus 6 is in fact the Motorola Shamu. The same report from the Android-focused blog site was accompanied by a mock-up of the device that showcased a near 6-inch screen.

It was also mentioned that the next Nexus smartphone is pretty much a 2014 Moto X clone, specifically a scaled up version of the latter.

Gigantic specs

And while the Droid Life report was short on details, except that the Nexus 6 is geared to be picked up by Verizon on launch time, 9to5Google was more generous by sharing the following:

§ A 5.92-inch Quad HD display at 498ppi

§ A 3200mAh battery

§ A combination of 13MP rear camera and 2MP front shooter

§ A Snapdragon 805 processor

§ And up to 3GB of RAM

Nexus X?

Yet there remains a possibility that Google would unleash a second and smaller Nexus phone that likely will sport a 5.2-inch display panel. There is a chance too that this kit will be powered by a 64-bit processor that Qualcomm will made.

Also, the Nexus X branding has been floating around lately but it is unclear if this is a separate unit or Google would allow its use instead of Nexus 6 since the device is moulded after the Motorola 2014 flagship - the second Moto X.

Regardless, both the devices will be the first to debut Android L that according to numerous reports is set for formal unveiling on October 16. Immediately after that intro, Google is said to make the Nexus 6 and its new Android edition simultaneously available.

That likely would point to a Halloween 2014 or November 1 release date for the Nexus 6 and Android 5.0 with the likelihood of the Nexus 8 or HTC Nexus 9 joining the pack.
