Washington Wizards forward Paul Pierce was caught off guard when he learned of the developments in the Brooklyn Nets camp this offseason, prompting him to move on to a new chapter of his career.

Brooklyn sacked debutant head coach Jason Kidd, who was later replaced by Lionel Hollins.

"I definitely didn't see all that coming," the 37-year-old told Nets Nation.

He cited that it was Kidd and Kevin Garnett, among others, which lured him to leave his lengthy and relatively successful stint with the Boston Celtics.

"I think it all started probably with Jason leaving, it's kind of like a domino from there ... I was a little disappointed, because I thought I was going to come back there and Jason was one of the main reasons I came to Brooklyn, him and Kevin (Garnett)," he added.

"It just happened so fast. I had a chance to talk to him and he has his reasons, the way things went down ... But like I said, the business - you've got to understand the business aspect of it. He moved on. The Nets moved on and people went their different directions."

Now based in the nation's capital, Pierce's experience and leadership will be key to guiding the young and promising backcourt duo of the Wizards in John Wall and Bradley Beal.
