AT&T will be the first carrier to launch BlackBerry Priv
Priv's got a sleek design and advanced security features
AT&T is going to be the first U.S. carrier to launch the new Android-powered BlackBerry Priv. Clients will be glad to know the Canadian tech giant's newest device will be available for around $350 on November 6 if they sign a new two-year contract.
AT&T users that don’t want a new contract can also get their hands on the Priv by purchasing it for around $978.
News of BlackBerry's decision to join the Android bandwagon was understood as the company's strategy to revive its smartphone business. BlackBerry has constantly struggled to attract users to its BB10-powered handsets.
It would appear BlackBerry is betting its future in the smartphone market on an upcoming QWERTY-equipped smartphone with Android 5.1 Lollipop, pointed out Tech Times.
Priv is packed with specs typically found in devices made by its Android competitors such as Motorola, LG, HTC and Samsung.
The BlackBerry Priv boasts of a Quad HD dual curved screen pretty much like the one the Galaxy S6 Edge+ from Samsung features. The device is powered by a 64-bit Snapdragon 808 processor, 3 GB of RAM, and an Adreno 418 GPU, or graphics processing unit.
It also features an 18 megapixel dual flash Schneider-Kreuznach certified camera; a huge 3,410 mAh battery that can give the unit up to 22.5 hours of uninterrupted power and 32 GB of internal storage that can be expanded with a MicroSD card.
The device's QWERTY keyboard can be slid out from behind the unit whenever its user prefers to type on a physical keyboard instead of the type accessed on its touch screen.
Priv is expected to become available with all of the four major carriers in the United States. It must be noted AT&T will definitely be the first one to launch Priv.
"You can finally have everything you loved about BlackBerry with the capabilities of Android OS”, said Jeff Bradley, Senior Vice President of AT&T Mobility's Device Marketing and Developer Services on About AT&T.
"This smartphone is a powerhouse with sleek design, seamless productivity, and advanced security features on the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network”.
