Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger blamed luck, more specifically the lack thereof, after the Gunners escaped with a 3-3 draw against Anderlecht.

The north Londoners were on the verge of ending the night with full three points, leading by as much as three goals until the 60th minute. But then, things went from bad to worse.

Anthony Vanden Borre was on-target after Andy Kawaya delivered an inviting cross. Twelve minutes later Nacho Monreal conceded a penalty and Borre took full advantage of the costly mistake, converting the spot kick, and just when they thought it was over, Aleksandar Mitrovic heads the ball past Wojciech Szczesny and into the back of net at the 90th minute.

"You have to give them [Anderlecht] credit because the fought until the end and we had a poor defensive performance from the first to the last minute today," said the French mentor.

"We never felt comfortable and somewhere we got punished because of bad luck."

"The first goal was offside but defensively our performance was not good enough to do it."

He further admitted that complacency might have gotten the better out of his squad.

"Secondly at 3-0 we thought the job was done and it was a combination of switching off and fatigue as well," he revealed.

"You could see we couldn't win the challenges and they finished stronger and sharper - we got punished."

Arsenal are currently on second-place in group D of the Champions League and will only need two points to be assured of qualification to the next round. However, they need more than just luck on their next upcoming fixture against group leaders and still undefeated Borussia Dortmund.
