Miss Universe 2015 turned out to be a gala event with some of the most unexpected twists and turns. Everything went well till presenter Steve Harvey made the biggest goof-up of the year and announced Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, as the winner instead of Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. However, Miss Universe 2015 Wurtzbach appeared completely unfazed by the drama that took place on Sunday.

Just a few hours after winning the crown, Wurtzbach took to Twitter to express her joy on winning the crown.

“42 years of drought and now it finally reigns :) Mabuhay! Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat (Long live the Philippines) #MissUniverse #MissUniverso #ConfidentlyBeautiful,” read her Twitter and Instagram post. She also added a photograph with the crown resting on her head and her Miss Universe sash in front of her.

Wurtzbach also talked about her successful stint in the competition during a press conference after the event.

"I'm still in awe, I can't believe what just happened. It's been 42 years since the Philippines won in Miss Universe," Wurtzbach said. The newly crowned Miss Universe 2015 also revealed that she was confused after the apology by the presenter.

“I was a little hesitant on going up to the stage. I was looking for cues from the floor director still to bring in to the front of the stage. No one really knew who was going to take the crown from Colombia to me, so even they were a little bit confused,” the 26-year-old beauty queen revealed.

It is known to very few people that Wurtzbach was born in Germany. Wurtzbach's official Miss Universe bio reveals that she was born in Stuttgart, Germany and was brought up in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, E News reported.

Interestingly, Wurtzbach was a child actress and teamed up with Star Magic Talent under the stage name of Pia Romero at the age of 11. She even acted in TV shows and films. Before winning the crown, Wurtzbach worked as a stylist, makeup artist and beauty writer for Inquirer Lifestyle's 2bU section.

Born to a German father, who died last year, and Filipino mother, Wurtzbach is a polyglot and speaks Filipino, English and German. Wurtzbach defeated contestants from 83 countries and went on to win the competition that was organised on Dec. 20 at The AXIS in Las Vegas.
