For many years, Aaron Finch has been regarded as a limited-overs specialist. But the 30-year-old is still chasing his dream of earning the Baggy Green ahead of Australia's home series against Pakistan starting Dec. 15.

The Victorian is determined to break into the Test team after a match-winning century against South Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) during the Sheffield Shield match that ended Tuesday.

In the aftermath of the series defeat to South Africa, Cricket Australia cracked down the whip on the Test team -- handing out debuts to three new players during the third and final Test at the Adelaide Oval.

With the exception of captain Steve Smith and opener David Warner, it seems like none of the Australian batsmen have secured a place in the team ahead of a taxing season that includes three home Tests against Pakistan and four away Tests against India starting February.

If Finch continues to score the big hundreds for Victoria, it's very likely that the hard-hitting batsman makes the Test team in the foreseeable future. "Test cricket is still my No.1 goal. I want to play Test cricket for Australia.

"When you are growing up, when you are playing in the backyard, you want to play Test … I'm still working as hard as I ever have on my game, so a few more runs hopefully," Finch told SEN after Victoria's 5-wicket victory over South Australia, via Sydney Morning Herald.

The explosive batsman, who has scored seven centuries as an opener in ODI cricket, realises that players who play all three formats have little time to recuperate from injuries. "The guys in the Test side, I think over the summer they worked it out that there are three days off that don't involve travel, training, recovery.

"It's just three days off for the whole summer for these guys like Starc and Smith and Warner, Hazlewood, these guys who are playing all forms. That's pretty full on," added Finch, who is gearing up for the three-match ODI series against arch rivals New Zealand starting Dec. 5.

If Finch continues to pile on the runs for Victoria and the Australian one-day team, the new selection committee could struggle to find reasons to deny him a berth on the Test squad.

Aaron Finch played a key role during Australia's 50-over World Cup victory at home in 2014. He has appeared in one-day internationals and 28 Twenty20 internationals for the national side.
