Xiaomi Co-Founder and Senior VP Liwan Jiang has confirmed his company plans to launch the most anticipated flagship smartphones of 2016, the Mi 5, after the Spring Festival, which starts on Feb. 8 and lasts for 15 days.

A report by GizmoChina states that the device will go on sale a week after its launch. This means the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be available for purchase by the end of February.

The company has been sending out teasers for a while now. Earlier, it revealed the Xiaomi Mi 5 had entered mass production and ensured that there would be enough units to cater to the huge demand, reports NDTV Gadgets.

Last November, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said that the Mi 5 was “worth the wait.” Several renders and leaks have emerged on the Web depicting the specifications (see video below) and features of the smartphone.

A couple of days back, the device was also spotted on online retailers' website, although these, along with their beefy specifications, were later taken down. The Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to come with a 5.2-inch QHD display 1080P (565ppi) display with 2.5D curved glass.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun also updated his official Weibo account saying the device will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. The handset will possibly come with two RAM configurations and storage options - 3GB of RAM with 32GB of native storage and 4GB of RAM with 64GB of in-built storage.

In the camera department, the Mi 5 is is believed to flaunt a 16-megapixel main camera and a 13-megapixel front-facing camera. A massive 3,600 mAh battery is supposed to back the device to keep the lights on. Supported by Quick Charge 3.0 technology, the handset is said to run MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Earlier reports also indicate the Mi 5 will be the first Xiaomi handset to sport 3D Touch technology and physical home button with fingerprint scanner. The Xiaomi Mi 5 may come with support for NFC and USB Type-C interface.
