Last week, Microsoft announced that more than 200 million devices across the globe are running Windows 10. Soon after the announcement it is now apparent that out of the total count, over a million phones are powered by the latest OS.

While speaking at the latest episode of the Windows Weekly podcast along with Paul Thurrott , Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet confirmed that the latest Windows operating system is powering 180 million PCs and 18 million Xbox Ones. She also revealed that about “one million plus” Windows 10 installs were for mobile phones, reports Windows Central.

However, Foley mentioned that she was unable to verify the numbers. Microsoft has not yet revealed any breakup of those 200 million Windows 10 installations.

According to a report in GSM Arena, data published by market research firm Net Applications reveals that Windows 10 now holds 9.96 percent of the Windows desktop OS market share . The report also stated that the Windows 7 version is the most popular on Windows OS which occupies almost 56 percent market share. Among other versions Windows XP and Windows 8.1 ranks next in popularity occupying 10.93 and 10.3 percent market share.

Microsoft’s Windows operating system claims over 91.3 percent share of the global OS market . Desktop operating systems Mac and Linux has 7.02 percent and 1.66 percent share respectively .

Microsoft revealed in a blog post that, during the holiday season there was an extraordinary increase in demand of Windows 10 among consumers. Moreover, with over 11 billion hours on Windows 10, the month of December saw the highest engagement on Windows ever before.

“Since Black Friday, US retail PC share for Windows 10 grew 16 points to 62% compared to the prior four weeks. Windows 10 mix of PCs rose to 87% from 58% prior to the holiday,” confirmed the Redmond based tech giant.
