After forgettable performances on their season openers, the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers hope that the brighter lights of Monday night primetime will force their teams to play better and recover from what was a bad start into the 2013 regular season.

In Week 1, the Steelers never got their game going in a 9-16 home loss to the Tennessee Titans. The Steelers were one of the worst teams on opening week for a variety of reasons. They logged just 195 total yards (31st in the league) as the anemic offense, both on the air (163 passing yards) and the ground (31 rushing yards) struggled on Sunday.

Probably even worse for Pittsburgh is the fact that they’ve lost a few key players in the Titans game. Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey has torn ligaments in his right knee and could be off for the year. Linebacker Larry Foot ruptured his right biceps, another season-ending injury.

Meanwhile, the Bengals played better than Pittsburgh in Week 1 but has no W to show for after a collapse against the Chicago Bears. Cincinnati held an 11-point lead in the third but after 3 turnovers and 8 penalties they allowed Chicago to get the 24-21 victory.

In their respective opening games, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger had 191 yards on 21-of-33 completions with 1 touchdown and 1 interception while Bengals QB Andy Dalton had 282 passing yards (26-of-33) with 2 TD and 2 INT.
