Former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez disclosed that he almost committed a "big error" by joining Arsenal before the 2013/14 season began.

The Uruguay international was desperate to play in the Champions League back then, and the Gunners took advantage by reportedly offering £40million to lure him to the Emirates. Obviously, such transfer did not materialise and the 27-year-old went on to net 31 goals, helping the Reds finish as runners-up, while named as that term's PFA Player of the Year.

"It would have been a big error that I would have made had it not been for Steven Gerrard," Suarez said in his book "Luis Suarez, My Story: Crossing the Line."

"We spoke about this when I went to Melwood to pick up my things at the end of the summer and he said: 'You did the right thing, you waited until the best moment.'"

"He had told me to play well for Liverpool, give it another year and it will be Bayern Munich, Real Madrid or Barcelona coming for you and then you can go where you want, because you have the quality to play at any of those three clubs."

True enough, Suarez made a blockbuster move to FC Barcelona for a fee of around £70million, and has already made his debut against, no less than, Real Madrid after it was deferred due to a ban meted out on him for biting an opposing player during the 2014 World Cup.
