Senior Constable Marc David Osborn was named as the Sydney police officer who secretly recorded having sex with women, using a spy camera hidden in an alarm clock, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Senior Constable Osborn, 42, is an officer of Gladesville Police. He bought a silver, round-faced analogue clock with a pinhole camera and a motion sensor device on eBay in August 2012, which he placed on a tallboy facing his bed.

When the police officer invited three different women on three separate occasions in September and October, each woman had no idea that they were being filmed when having sex with Osborn. He hooked up with them on dating Web sites such as Skout and Oasis.

Prosecutor Matthew Karpin told the court on Wednesday that "The event was filmed using the hidden camera without the woman's knowledge."

"They sat down and had dinner and watched a number of videos ... before going up to the bedroom."

After recording the sex act, Senior Constable Osborn transfers the videos to his laptop for viewing, re-record sections and then shoot stills, using his mobile phone.

The Professional Services Command officers searched Mr Osborn's home and they found 17 separate video files and numerous stills taken from them.

He fainted and needed to be taken to the hospital after he was confronted by the Command officers at work a few days later. In the ambulance, the police officer admitted that the women didn't know and that his behaviour was "just boys being boys".

The Sydney police officer is facing three charges in the Downing Centre Local Court for 'filming a person engaged in a private act for the purpose of obtaining sexual gratification.' However, he disputes the case and said that he did not make the sex videos to obtain sexual gratification.

The hearing is still ongoing.
