Sony has announced the release date of its Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact in the US. Starting Feb. 7, the smartphones will be available statewide through major online retailers.

From November last year, the Xperia Z5 Premium has been available in the US and Canada. Third-party retailers like Amazon and Expansys sell both the standard and dual-SIM variant in these markets. It is worth noting that all the models of Xperia Z5 Premium are international variants. Now the standard Xperia Z5 and the smaller Xperia Z5 Compact will join the club, announced Sony.

Amazon, Best Buy and B&H will offer the unlocked Xperia Z5 for US$599 (AU$859), while the Z5 Compact will be $100 less and and will be available for US$499 (AU$715). The unlocked variants can work on any GSM-based network, including AT&T and T-Mobile in the US, reports GSM Arena.

The Xperia Z5 features 5.2-inch FHD 1080p display, 3 GB of RAM and a 2,900 mAh battery. Meanwhile, the Xperia Z5 Compact has a smaller 4.6-inch HD (720p) display with 2 GB of RAM and a 2,600 mAh battery.

Both handsets run on Snapdragon 810 processor, feature tout fingerprint sensors and are waterproof (IP65) and dust-resistant (IP68). Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact also run on Android 5.1 with Sony’s userface on top. They also boast the much-talked about IMX300 camera sensor.

According to Sony Xperia Blog, the new camera sensor has been highly rated by industry experts at DxOMark, a French imaging firm specialising on mobile phone cameras. The 23-megapixel main camera can capture 5520 x 4120 pixel images and video at 2160 pixels per 30 frames per second (fps), 1080p per 60fps and 720p per 120fps. Furthermore, the IMX300 sensor sports a 192-point hybrid autofocus system that provides the fastest focusing time (0.03 seconds).

Meanwhile, Sony also announced the incorporation of the pink variant in the Xperia Z5 series.
