Samsung and LG are reportedly going to feature iris recognition security technology in their 2016 flagships. This is welcome news for consumers coming from the two Korean tech giants since iris recognition is quickly becoming the norm.

Before Samsung's Galaxy S5 and LG's G3 made their way into the market, they were said to feature iris scanners, according to G for Games. Sadly, however, incorporating the feature into these devices didn’t push through. The Galaxy S6 and G4 also didn’t have this technology.

That said, consumers now expect the Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 to finally have the new security feature.

When fingerprint scanners first came out as a top notch security feature, only a handful of handsets had them. It eventually developed into a norm commonly supported by high-end devices from multiple brands. In no time at all, the tech market was flush with devices having fingerprint scanners as their authentication media.

Although iris scanners aren’t commonly featured in phones, the tech is expected to soon become a common feature, especially since it’s safer and more advanced compared to fingerprint recognition, according to Tech Times.

As it turns out, both Samsung and LG have been hard at work testing the technology but later decided it wasn’t ready for final implementation. Now that both companies have had enough time for research and tests, their next generation flagships just might boast of iris scanners once launched.
