The next-generation Moto X 2014 (Gen 2) has recently been unveiled, whereas the 2014 flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 was released in April. Readers who are interested in the Moto X 2014 or the Samsung Galaxy S5 should check out this comparison.
Display, Exterior And Size
The Moto X 2014 features a 5.2-inch AMOLED display and 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution. The Samsung Galaxy S5, meanwhile, comes with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display, along with the same resolution as the Moto device. When it comes to the exterior, the Motorola device looks similar to its predecessor from 2013, barring the difference in size. Even though Moto X's design is identical to Moto X 2013, the aluminium frame has taken over the plastic look, providing the much-celebrated premium look. Furthermore, the front and back shells can be disintegrated and changed via Motorola Moto Maker, same as other Moto handsets. Lastly, the Motorola logo on the rear is rather big and it is enwrapped in a metallic circle, reports Android Origin. The Samsung Galaxy S5, on the other hand, comes with a perforated (dotted) rear design, synonymous to other Samsung handsets. Nevertheless, the phone carries a matte-effect loaded surface, instead of the glossy and cheap appearance, opines CNet.
Speaking of size, the thickness and the weight of the Motorola device are 0.39-inch and 144 g, respectively, while the Samsung Galaxy S5 is 0.32-inch thick and weighs 145 g.

Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy S5 runs on Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS with TouchWiz UI on top of it, whereas the Moto X 2014 runs on Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS (upgradable to Android L v5.0). As far as the memory goes, both the devices offer 16 GB and 32 GB of in-built storage. While the Samsung device supports microSD card up to 128 GB, the Motorola handset doesn't.
Camera And Battery
The Galaxy S5 sports a solid 16 MP rear-facing camera with LED flash, while the Moto X features a 13 MP primary camera with dual-LED flash. In addition, both the handsets come with the same 2 MP front-facing shooter for selfies. Also, the Samsung device is backed by a good Li-Ion 2800 mAh battery, whereas the Moto X comes packed with a relatively inferior Li-Ion 2300 mAh battery unit.
