“The Originals” Season 3 promo photos reveals “Veronica Mars” actor Jason Dohring as the new human character, Detective Kinney, joining Cami O’Connell (Leah Pipes) in the CW TV series.

Seen on The Hollywood Reporter, or THR, the exclusive first look photos of Jason Dohring as Detective Kinney in “The Originals” Season 3 shows him ready to conduct an investigation. Executive producer and series creator Julie Plec also talked about the inclusion of the new “The Originals” character in the supernatural world of New Orleans in an interview.

She revealed to THR that fans will get to meet Detective Kinney in the premiere episode of “The Originals” Season 3 because a crime will take place and the detective will arrive at the scene to investigate. Plec further teased that Dohring’s character, who is “decidedly human,” will be working closely with some of the characters in “The Originals.”

“The question is, how much does he know or not know about what's going on in the supernatural world? And what's going to happen to him as a result of digging too deep?” Plec said in the THR interview.

In another THR interview, Plec teased that Detective Kinney will have a lot of interaction with “The Originals” characters Cami and Vincent Griffith, played by Yusuf Gatewood. Plec further revealed in the interview that Detective Kinney and Vincent know each other, and the detective’s investigation draws Vincent and Cami to provide assistance.

“So we get to see Cami as a fun little CSI,” Plec shared to THR.

When asked if Detective Kinney will have a love interest, Plec responded that the new character will be very focused on getting the job done in New Orleans. “The Originals” Season 3 will premiere on Thursday night, Oct. 8, at 9/8c on the CW Network.
