Matt Hasselbeck has signed a one-year deal worth $3M with the Indianapolis Colts and will most likely serve as a back-up to young star quarterback Andrew Luck.
Ian Rapoport, writer at NFL.com and the official Colts account confirmed the deal on Twitter.

Hasselbeck will be the insurance QB at Indianapolis for the third straight season. He signed with the team in 2013 originally to a two year deal worth $7.25 million and has also suited up for the Green Bay Packers from 1998 to 2000 and had his career years with the Seattle Seahawks from 2001 to 2010. Hasselback also spent time with the Tennessee Titans in 2011-2012.

The 39 year old Hasselbeck has only played in a total of seven games for the Colts the past two seasons but his value is more on mentoring Luck, who is considered one of the rising stars in the league. Hasselback logged in 431 passing yards on 37 of 56 completions with two touchdowns in his time with the Colts. Hasselbeck’s experience is highly valued by the Colts as the veteran QB has made the NFL Pro Bowl three times in his career in 2003, 2005 and 2007.

The Colts ranked first in total average passing yards in the 2014 NFL regular season at 305.9 yards. They finished the regular season 11-5 and made the playoffs. Indianapolis beat The Cincinnati Bengals, 26-10 in the wild card game, upset the Denver Broncos, 24-13 in the divisional match-up. They lost to the New England Patriots, 45-7 in the conference championship.
