The Boston Celtics are reportedly looking for a “go-to scorer” that would instantly elevate the team’s status as a legitimate title contender.

Chris Forsberg of ESPN said that Celtics general manager Danny Ainge is “most interested” in adding a prolific scorer to his team, believing that it would bring Boston back into title contention. Ainge said the young core of talents he have assembled has carried over the Celtics in the last two seasons, but a “reliable scorer” during crunch times would solve Boston’s problems.

"I think the one thing that we could really use is a go-to scorer,” Ainge said. “We have some guys that have carried us -- Kelly [Olynyk has] carried us, Avery [Bradley has] carried us, Isaiah [Thomas has] carried us, [Jared Sullinger has] carried us at moments during the season, Evan Turner has carried us -- but it would be nice to find another player that’s a reliable scorer at the end of games, night in and night out."

The Celtics are currently 10th in the East with a 14-13 record. However, their road for a playoff spot remains rocky in a surprisingly tough Eastern Conference, with 10 of 15 teams currently above .500 in winning percentage.

According to Bill Simmons, who runs his own Podcast in HBO, one possible move that could fit Ainge’s wish-list is to trade for New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony. Simmons discussed in his podcast a proposed deal that would ship the eight-time All-Star to Beantown for David Lee, James Young, Jonas Jerebko, and Brooklyn Nets’ 2016 unprotected draft pick.

While Simmons’ trade proposal is all based on speculations, by trading for Anthony, the Knicks would have a shot at drafting Aussie basketball phenom Ben Simmons, who is considered as consensus top pick in next year’s rookie draft.

Moreover, the Knicks are currently struggling to find any success in the East and are now sitting 13-14 behind the Celtics in the rankings. New York is not expected to contend for a playoff spot, so considering the future may be a good move for the Knicks.

On the other hand, Ben Watanabe of NESN believes Anthony would “far from a pushover,” but adding him to Boston’s “scrappy and defense-oriented” team could be the key for the Cs to get back in the NBA map.

“Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge has never been one to stand pat when there is a deal to be made, so don’t rule out a move — for Anthony or anyone else — at the moment you least expect it,” Watanabe wrote.

Anthony has been considered as the cornerstone of the Knicks franchise, but if New York are looking to rebuild around an emerging Kristaps Porzingis, dealing the 31-year-old superstar is still possible.
