Just ten hours after rumours that the Cleveland Cavaliers have secured the services of sharpshooting guard Ray Allen, everything is being swept up under a rug.

Several Twitter feeds early in the day have reported that the transaction as done deal and will be finalized once the team comes back from its trip to Brazil. However, all those reports are being shot down as Fox Sports Ohio reports that Allen's agent Jim Tanner posted a statement on twitter clarifying that his ward remains undecided and is still weighing options.

Jim Tanner tweeted (via @_tandemse) that he spoke to Ray Allen earlier today. Allen's camp doesn't know where these rumors keep coming from.

This was confirmed by Tanner when he posted in the Twitter account of Tandem Sports and Entertainment saying, "Amid continued rumors and having spoken with Ray today, let me be very clear. Ray's position has not changed. Ray has not decided if he will play this season nor has he signed w/the @Cavs."

The NBA's current record holder of most number of three point shots made is still torn between chasing his third championship and hanging out the sneakers for good. The sharpshooter was quoted in August as saying that he is still in great shape to continue playing in the NBA but stressed that "just because you can does not mean you have to." The 39-year-old also imparted that he still has many things in life that he wants to focus on beside basketball, primarily is spending more time with his children.

Despite his pronouncement, several NBA teams are still interested to add the veteran to their roster. The San Antonio Spurs is an intriguing prospect given how it manages the minutes of its veteran's and its ability to compete year in and out despite an older roster. The Washington Wizards are banking on the friendship between Paul Pierce and Allen to bring the veteran to a young nucleus of John Wall and Bradley Beal. The Clippers offer much of the same plus the Ubuntu of Doc Rivers. While the apparent frontrunners, the Cavaliers have the best recruiter in basketball, LeBron James.

With the start of the regular season just a few weeks away the possibility that the best sharpshooter in basketball will be retiring for good is inching nearer to reality.
