Reports about Microsoft's acquisition of Minecraft started to spread last week and now, the company officially announces that Mojang and the Minecraft franchise has joined the team. It costs $2.5 billion, which is reported to be the largest since Satya Nadella took over the company. In the last two years, Mincraft has been played for more than 2 billion hours by Xbox 360 users. That means it costs $1.50 per hour of play.

Microsoft claims that gaming has the biggest influence among the device from PCs and consoles to tablet and to smartphones. According to Nadella, Gamers spent billions of hours on gaming each year. The CEO suggests that Minecraft could be a great franchise since it can be used across all platforms from Xbox, PC, iOS, Android and PlayStation. Its creator, Markus Persson a.k.a. Notch decided that it no longer wants the responsibilities of owning a company that is so big and too much to handle, according to Owen Hill from Mojang.

Mojang will join Microsoft Studios, which is known for making Halo, Forza and Fable. The deal is expected to be closed late 2014. Minecraft has been so popular and the acquisition by Microsoft could add a new chapter to it. Meanwhile the creators of Minecraft will move on to start new projects. Forbes believes that the Minecraft community will continue the success of the game into the future.

Mojang confirmed the report on its website and notes, "Yes, the deal is real. Mojang is being bought by Microsoft. It was reassuring to see how many of your opinions mirrored those of the Mojangstas when we heard the news. Change is scary, and this is a big change for all of us. It's going to be good though. Everything is going to be OK. <3″

This deal makes Markus "Notch" Persson as the newest and most likely the youngest billionaire. Mojang is reported to confirm that Notch along with two of the co-founders of Minecraft will not be a part of Microsoft. There are no reports for its future plans yet, having the success of Minecraft, everyone expects something great will come from the creators in the future.
