The Moto G 2014 is one of the best-selling smartphones from Motorola that comes with an affordable on-contract price tag of $179 (AU$ 216). The Microsoft Lumia 535 is the first ever Lumia smartphone that comes with Microsoft branding. On Expansys, the Lumia 535 is listed with a cost of $169.99 AU$204.

The Lumia 535 is a very promising phone that comes with features that can take on the 2nd generation Moto G. Here is a comparison between the two budget-friendly smartphones:

Design And Display

The new Moto G 2nd generation has a thickness of 11 mm and weighs 149 g. It is available in colours like Black and White. The Lumia 535 is a thinner handset with a thickness is only 8.8 mm and weighs 146 g. Even though the Lumia has a slimmer body, both weigh almost the same. It is available in wide range of colours, like orange, green, white, black, and gray and blue.

The front side of both the handsets features Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Also, on the front side of the Moto G 2014, there are two stereo speakers placed above and below the display. The rear side of the Lumia 535 has a glossy plastic finish, which can attract smudges easily. The exterior Moto G 2014 is entirely made of plastic and appears curvy from rear.

Both the handsets feature 5-inch IPS LCD display. The Lumia 535 supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution and 221 ppi whereas the Moto G 2014 supports HD resolution and 294 ppi. The Lumia 535 as well as the Moto G 2014 offer good view angles and outdoor visibility. Since the 2nd gen Moto G comes with slightly higher resolution, the display appears somewhat sharper and brighter.

Processor, RAM And Storage

The low-end Snapdragon 200 chipset present on the Lumia comes with a Cortex A7 quad-core processor that delivers a clocking speed of 1.2 GHz along with Adreno 302 graphics and 1 GB of RAM. The Moto G 2014 is powered with a better performing chipset, the Snapdragon 400 chipset which features a Cortex A7 quad-core processor which clocks at 1.2 GHz. It is accompanied with Adreno 305 graphics and 1 GB of RAM.

Both the handset come with 8 GB of inbuilt storage. The external microSD slot on 2nd Moto G supports only up to 32 GB of microSD card while users can add up to 128 GB of microSD on the external storage of Lumia 535.

Camera And Software

The Lumia 535 houses a 5 MP camera along with LED flash on the rear panel. It can shoot videos of 480 pixels quality at 30 fps. Above the display, there is a 5 MP selfie camera that can shoot wide angled photos and videos.

The Moto G 2014 has an 8 MP camera with LED on its rear. It can is capable of recording HD videos at 30 fps along with support for stereo audio recording. It also houses a 2 MP front-facing camera.

The Microsoft Lumia 535 and Motorola Moto G 2014 come loaded with totally different operating systems. The Lumia 535 comes with Windows Phone 8.1 with the latest Lumia Denim update whereas the all new Android 5.0 Lollipop update is available for Moto G 2014.

Connectivity And Battery

The Lumia 535 and 2nd Moto G come with plenty of connectivity features like 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microUSB, and aGPS. Both the handsets lack 4G LTE connectivity.

The Lumia 535 houses a removable 1905 mAh battery. It delivers a talk time of 13 hours. The Moto G 2014 has a non-removable battery of 2070 mAh capacity. It produces a 3G talk time of nearly 12 hours.
