Microsoft is reported to have sent out invitations for a press event to be held on September 30 and the company is expected to release the technical preview of Windows 9 on the event. The tech preview is expected to be released to Microsoft's select partners, developers and tech enthusiasts on September 30 and the tech preview for the public can be released on October, according to reports.

Famous blogger Paul Thurrot suggests that the tech preview of Windows 9 could be released on October and claims to have received details about Windows 9. The blogger described some of the features to be expected from the new OS including the Start menu, Modern apps and the File Explorer.

The Start menu could return with some improvements on it combining the functionalities coming from Windows 7 and Windows 8. Significant apps, folders and contacts can be pinned to the Start menu. These will appear as tiles on the start menu making it very easy for users to access everything necessary or important that can also be organised and resized, according to Thurrot. The right part of the Start screen could include the list and links to all apps, a search box will also be included and above will be the account name and the power button.

Thurrot suggests that the tech preview of Windows 9 could include modern apps like for music, movies, photos and emails and won't really have a lot of difference compared to Windows 8.1. Moderns apps are reportedly to run in floating windows where there will be a new "option" button that will allow app commands and system commands. Unlike the previous reports, the Charms bar is reported to still exist on the next OS, but it can only be accessed by touch screen devices. Apps running on Windows 8.1 could still be included as well. The "task review" button on the taskbar is reportedly to be used to switch between running apps.

An improved version of File Explorer can be expected as well where the Home location in the default view is included. Users can easily share data on the File Explorer since there will be a share button in the Share tab. The control panel can also access to advanced PC settings to allow users make changes easily.
