Google unveiled several smartphones to run on Android One which is basically made to be affordable to push the use of smartphones in the developing countries. It launched in India where

Micromax, Spice and Karbonn will be selling a 4.5-inch display phones with 1GB of RAM, 5MP rear and 2MP front-facing cameras. These devices will be powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processors that will have dual SIM card slots and support for microSD and FM radios.

To further acquaint users with Google's new OS, we compared one of the smartphones that run on Android One to a smartphone that runs on Windows Phone 8 since Microsoft's Lumia brand offers a lot of affordable phones. So, we compared Micromax Canvas A1 on Android One to Lumia 625 on Windows Phone 8.

The Lumia 625 runs on Windows Phone 8 GDR2 with an Amber update. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual core chipset at 12 GHz and an Adreno 305 graphic processor with 512MB of RAM.

The Micromax Canvas A1 on the other hand runs on the newly announced Android One. The phone is powered by a 1.3GHz MediaTek quad-core processor, Mali-400MP graphics and 1GB RAM. It comes in 4GB model that has a support for microSD that can be expanded to 32GB

It features black plastic bezel that comes in a glossy finish and a 4.5-inch FWVGA(480x854p) IPS display. It sports a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and it has 2MP front-facing camera.

As the specs were compared, the Micromax Canvas A1 seems to have advantage if it is compared to the Lumia 625 because it has a bigger screen that users can take advantage of, it has a better camera with higher resolution, flash with dual LEDs. It has CMOS sensor instead of CCD sensor that reduces power consumption and can provide better image quality. The Micromax Canvas A1 is pretty decent at its price. Affordable smartphones have already existed for quite a while but this initiative coming from Google give users a chance to access new apps and service through software updates. Aside from India, Android One smartphones will come to other countries such as the Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal before the year ends, according to The Verge.
