Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen will use his side's thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur last season as a motivation ahead of their Premier League clash at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

"It was a fantastic team performance," he told Liverpoolfc.com.

"We were travelling down there without Stevie and Studge. We all showed, as a team, that we were capable of putting in a fantastic performance."

The Reds came out victors with a 5-0 scoreline that, according to Allen, served as a catalyst to jumpstart their campaign.

"It was certainly one of the stand-out games, no doubt about that. That's why we're all excited for Sunday's game," he added.

However, he admitted that the upcoming fixture will be a different story, and that they will need to give their all against an unbeaten Spurs.

"Obviously it will be a difficult task to produce the same result and performance, but that's our aim. That performance had a bit of everything so let's hope it can be more of the same," he intimated.

"We know if we bring our 'A' game, work hard and give everything, that we've got enough quality to overcome a good Spurs team."

"We have to make sure there is no complacency - they have started the season really well - and that last year's result isn't a hindrance and we don't see it as something we can recreate easily."

"We have to make sure that we do everything we did in that game once again."
