The timing of speculating on LeBron James' future beyond this season may be off. After all today is his 30th birthday and the rumblings of discontent and disarray within the Cleveland Cavaliers have been unsubstantiated.

The four-time Most Valuable Player even went as far as saying that the media which are constantly fielding questions on his level of satisfaction with Coach David Blatt are just spinning the story to generate an issue. But his lukewarm answer to that question by saying, "what other coach do we have?" has just added fuel to the fire of the rumours of his discontent. The warmth of the notion that James may yet again just take his talents elsewhere has been gaining smoke that Chris Haynes of the Northeast Ohio Media Group is reporting that the two-time champion may use the opt out clause of his contract by the end of 2015 and re-examine his future.

"Given the massive scrutiny he would endure if he departed Cleveland a second time, if his hand is forced, I'm told he won't hesitate to make the appropriate business decision if it means bolting," Haynes revealed in his latest article at Cleveland.com.

James has wisely agreed to a two-year contract with the Cavaliers in the off-season mainly due to the consensus that he would seek a bigger deal when the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) kicks in. The chance to walk away also puts into play that he may once again desert his hometown team if things do not work out.

And at 16-12, the Cavaliers are nowhere near the championship contender everyone anointed them at the start of the season. The team ranks in the bottom of defensive rankings and have issues everywhere: closing out in the perimeter, shot blocking and integrating the Big Three of James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in the read and react motion offence. Love, who can also examine his alternatives by season's end, has particularly struggled in the third wheel role, and has been relegated to spot up three point shooter.

Nevertheless, James and the rest of the players have continued to say the right things by showing their support for the European coach. Love and James have also quashed all speculations that they would leave after this season and have professed their preference to stay in Ohio long term. Winning would definitely cure a lot of things but with the way things are going, the team would have to undergo tweaks in a roster that is finding it hard to mesh.
