Former New Zealand Captain Benjie Marshall is expected to formally close the deal with St. George Illawara as Dragon Executive Peter Doust reportedly deliberated with the club's board on Tuesday regarding the situation. However the club remains tight-lipped and has not issued public comment amidst the reports.

Under normal circumstances, the approval of the club's board is not needed but it is speculated that the situation surrounding Mr. Marshall's offer is quite unique after his stint with Super Rugby franchise Auckland Blues was cut short just recently paving the concerns on his potential force with NRL.

The pivot has reportedly received offers on the table from at least five clubs including the Cowboys, Sharks, Melbourne, and Canberra for the 2014 season but the St. George offer is said to be the most profitable.

Faced with budgetary constraints, Cowboys could only offer the basic salary cap for the coveted pivot. Sharks and Melbourne expressed their intent early on with Cronulla set to snare Mr. Marshall owing the fact that most of his former teammates from West Tigers are already on the club. But the Dragon's strong interest to the 29-year old dramatically changed the situation. Meanwhile, Caberra denied speculations of their interest to the premier athlete and distanced themselves in the tale.

With the former West Tiger in the limbo, his acting manager Wayne Beavis mentioned that he can't work on phone calls and promises but he wanted to have the offer from the Dragons in black and white. On the other hand, the dragons refused to deal with Mr. Marshall's long-term Manager Martin Tauber due to the failed deal with Tiger utility Tim Moltzen in 2011.

Meanwhile, Dragon player have already expressed their welcome over Mr. Marshall's potential contract signing but his future still remains to be determined based on the long-awaited salary cap changes that NRL prepares for the next season.

NRL chief operating officer Jim Doyle mentioned to The Australian that the review is almost complete and will probably be finished by the end of the week.
