British no. 1 Andy Murray clinched the Vienna Open title with 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 victory over the Spaniard David Ferrer, his main rival in the race to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals next month. Thus far, Murray is already in the eighth place in the Race to London Standings, with only the top eight world ranked tennis players qualifying for the prestigious season-finale from Nov. 9 to 16, 2014. Murray is one rank higher and 110 points ahead of his Spanish rival.

ATP Race to London Standings as of October 22, 2014

1 Novak Djokovic - 9,010

2 Roger Federer - 8,020

3 Rafael Nadal - 6,745

4 Stan Wawrinka - 4,805

5 Kei Nishikori - 4,265

6 Marin Cilic - 4,150

7 Tomas Berdych - 4,105

8 Andy Murray - 3,885

9 David Ferrer - 3,775

10 Milos Raonic - 3,750

11 Grigor Dimitrov - 3,555

The recent victory of Andy Murray was his first over a top-eight player since he bagged the Wimbledon title in 2013. "It was a good finish to the week," Murray told the BBC after wrapping up victory in two hours and 41 minutes. "Obviously, it was an important match in the race for the Tour Finals in London and it was a very, very tough match but I managed to get through it."

Murray further added that the Vienna Open final was a very long match and they were both limping and struggling in the locker room, so he was happy to just get through it. The 27-year-old tennis superstar is set to play next in Valencia with 500 points on offer before he plays at Paris where he can possibly increase his points up to 1000 points more.

Meanwhile, Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori have already secured spot for the ATP World Tour Finals and Milos Raonic, who is currently eighth spot, already retired from the Shanghai open due to illness. He only has less than 100 points from Ferrer and Murray. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Ernests Gulbis and Feliciano Lopez are the only players who are "mathematically in the hunt" to reach the ATP World Tour Finals in London.
