Ever since Chief Executive Officer Marissa Meyer took over Yahoo, the company has been in a technology shopping spree. They have increased their portfolio by purchasing other companies that can diversify their offering. Some of the purchases, like that of Tumblr, are in record amounts. However, most of the deals were triggered at a fair price.

Recently, Yahoo is at it again particularly in mobile applications for fantasy sports as it acquired Bignoggins Productions which made successful apps such as Draft Monster and Fantasy Monster. The recent deal will improve Yahoo's Fantasy Sports offerings by providing a more in-depth and statistical view on how to manage a team and win a fantasy league.

The fantasy sports-related apps have drawn huge revenues to Bignoggins Productions and its only employee, founder Jerry Shen. In his official blog, Shen revealed that the functions of his two applications will be blended into Yahoo Fantasy Sports. While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, the amount could be so substantial that Shen and his wife can take another trip around the world, as documented in Mrs. Shen's personal website.

The operation of Bignoggins is also noteworthy due to its thrift spending. Shen does not pay any other employee so all the revenue goes to him. Likewise, he did not raise funds to start the company. That makes Shen a self-made tech entrepreneur that does not deal with the taxing grind of satisfying investors or fund sponsors. It is also quite funny to point out that he did think of firing himself but was taken aback because he had no other employee.

Shen's work eventually paid off as Draft Monster and Fantasy Monster became the bible of fantasy sports enthusiasts. The unprecedented success of Bignoggins' products was validated by it becoming one of the top-selling sports apps in the Google App Store. However, both apps were immediately taken off the App Store and Google Play catalog once the Yahoo acquisition was finalized.

Yes, Shen is very serious with the two Bignoggins applications. However, he showed his funny side in announcing the Yahoo buy-out by doing a parody of ESPN's one-hour special entitled "The Decision" wherein Lebron James announced that he will be taking his talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat. The video is hosted by YouTube and can also be seen on Shen's blog post regarding the sale.

Bignoggins Productions, LLC operates out of San Jose, California and it was incorporated in January 6, 2012. The company has produced hot-selling, fantasy sports-based applications that cater to basketball, baseball, American football and hockey to name a few. Shen and his family were able to live off the revenues that the apps bring and boredom prompted him to create his personal blog.
