The Cincinnati Bearcats football team has rebounded nicely from a pair of shock defeats to Big Ten bottom dweller Illinois and American Athletic Conference mid-level team South Florida. The 17-45 loss at Illinois, which is 0-3 in the Big Ten and 3-4 overall, all but took the Bearcats out of the running for a spot in the Top 25 poll rankings. Just when they were on a roll after rolling through Northwestern State, 66-9, and Miami of Ohio, 14-0, South Florida pulled the red carpet from under the visiting Bearcats whose AAC record fell to 0-1 behind #19 UCF and #20 Louisville.

They have redeemed themselves after, though, after two successive wins at home over Temple and Connecticut, the last one a homecoming game. The Bearcats then travel to Memphis where they tangle with the Tigers at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

The Memphis Tigers are at the bottom of the American Athletic, losing three games to conference opponents, one to one-time basketball rival Duke and another to in-state rival Middle Tennessee. Two of their conference losses have been to UCF and Houston, both of which tote 6-1 records, but the final scores don't reflect the fight that the Tigers showed as they lost by a total of just 17 points. The Tigers also held their opponents to less than 34 points at the most, which means they all they need is a quality offense to complement their excellent defensive line.

The Tigers' only win of the season came at home against Arkansas State, and coming off a narrow five-point loss to Southern Methodist, they sense that an upset is not far off. The Bearcats want to sustain their momentum and secure a place in a bowl game at the least. The Cincinnati Bearcats football team has rebounded nicely from a pair of shock defeats to Big Ten bottom dweller Illinois and American Athletic Conference mid-level team South Florida.
