Some bets can be deadly. Others, like a man and his wife found out on November 5, can be both deadly and ridiculous.

The man, John Grant, is a Chicago Bears fan who made a bet with his wife, a Green Bay Packers fan, on the results of the Monday Night Football game between the two teams they were supporting. If the Packers lost, Grant would use a stun gun, more commonly known as a taser, on his wife.

The woman told police that her husband used the taser twice on her while smoking tobacco outside a bar in Mayville, Wisconsin. She declined medical treatment, but sustained burn marks on her buttocks. After the incident, the couple walked back to the truck where they resided. The man threw his wife's dog out of the vehicle and refused entry to the woman.

While the woman signed a no-consent form prior to the investigation, it was considered void after police reviewed text messages and between Grant and his wife and a video caught using a mobile phone camera. There appeared to be some sort of consent involved in the bet, although the woman claimed she did not think her husband would actually claim his winnings.

Both Grant and his wife were tested for blood alcohol. Grant had a .137 BAC level, while his wife had .155, indicating thay were both intoxicated at the time of the incident.

Police found a black stun gun in the possession of the man. While the incident itself was not illegal, mere possession of a taser without a conceal and carry permit is prohibited in the state of Wisconsin. It was discovered that Grant did not have any such permit issued in any state. If convicted of the felony, he could face up to six years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.
