Real Madrid holding midfielder Sami Khedira is reported to be set in joining Arsenal this coming January after successfully settling personal terms with the north London outfit.

The World Cup winner's contract is about to expire in June 2015, and the Bernabeu hierarchy are looking to recoup the £13million spent on him when they acquired him from Stuttgart.

However, the finality of the deal could still depend on the 27-year-old's condition, as he was recently sidelined after undergoing an arthroscopic revision in his knee that was previously injured.

A pay cut on Khedira's part and a reduced asking price on the part of the Spanish giants could be one of the scenarios that could push the move through. Otherwise, Real will risk losing the German international for free.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are still perceived to be one of the Gunners' top competition in securing the services of Khedira, with Jose Mourinho looking to reunite with his former charge, whom he signed in 2010.
