Liverpool have set their eyes on Schalke FC’s Leroy Sane, with the Reds reportedly sending scouts to closely monitor the German wonder kid in the Bundesliga.

According to Football Insiders 247’s Alex Stevens, who cited a source inside Liverpool, the Reds are interested in Sane following the singing of Schalke’s centre-back Joel Matip, who will join the Premier League side on a free transfer this summer. The report added that Liverpool have been sending scouts to regularly watch the 20-year-old’s progress this season.

Sane, who signed a contract last July that will see him with Schalke until 2019, has also been the target of other English clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea. The German international has scored six goals in 31 games for the Bundesliga side this season and is reportedly worth £30 million (AU$58.3 million). However, there are concerns over Sane’s inconsistency and inexperience in the sport, according to German football analyst Alex Chaffer.

Christopher Simpson of Bleacher Report also noted Sane’s poor form in recent games, only scoring a single goal in 10 Bundesliga outings.

“Sane needs to continue his development and work on his end product, but he possesses incredible potential,” Simpson wrote. “A big-money move this summer might put undue pressure on him, but if Liverpool fail to act, they could end up missing out on him.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted he was disappointed with the club’s League Cup final loss to Manchester City on Sunday 1-1 (1-3 penalty), but insisted the Reds would bounce back immediately when they face the Sky Blues on Wednesday night in a Premier League match at Anfield.

“You know you can fall down, but you have to stand up. Only silly idiots stay on the floor and wait for the next defeat to come along and we will strike back, 100 per cent,” Klopp said, reports the Mirror. “Tonight we feel rubbish, s---, but if we carry on and work really hard there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
