Godzilla, which originally hailed from Japan, has been ingrained in pop culture, especially when last year’s “Godzilla” film proved to be a big hit. Now the monster king goes from movies to video games, as “Godzilla VS” has been announced for the PlayStation 4.

The game will have players controlling the monstrous icon Godzilla as he takes on various Kaiju in the game. Siliconera notes that some missions will actually have Godzilla taking on multiple Kaiju in several missions, which could prove to be difficult.

Godzilla won’t be the only playable monster in the game, however. All of the game’s Kaiju will apparently be playable in the game and can be used on online multiplayer mode. While most of the game’s monsters haven’t been revealed yet, fans will be happy to know that a Space Godzilla will be one of the monsters that players can use in the game, according to Crunchy Roll News.

The title doesn’t seem to be related to the upcoming “Godzilla” game, which is simply titled “Godzilla: The Game,” which is coming to Western shores this coming July courtesy of Bandai Namco. That title was originally just for the PlayStation 3 back in Japan, but since Western gamers will be getting it for their PlayStation 4, Japanese gamers will also be getting a PS4 version later this year.

What makes this “Godzilla” game unique is that there haven’t been too many Kaiju-related games. Granted, there was a “Pacific Rim” tie-in game, but it didn’t exactly set the world on fire. The last notable game featuring giant monsters was probably “War of the Monsters,” which came out back in 2003 for the PlayStation 2. Fans of that game can currently get it on the PSN store as a PS2 classic.

“Godzilla VS” will be coming to Japan this summer for the PlayStation 4. No plans have been announced for a Western version, but given the immense popularity of the giant lizard, it could only be a matter of time.
