The beginning of a new year marks a new engagement, at least, for one of the top power couples in sports - golfer Rory McIlroy and tennis player Caroline Wozniacki.

McIlroy claimed his first victory in 2014 with his engagement to tennis star girlfriend Wozniacki. "Happy new year everyone," the Irish golfer tweeted on Wednesday. "I have a feeling it's going to be a great year," he added. "My first victory in 2014, #shesaidyes," he wrote as the caption of a picture that shows the engagement ring on Wozniacki's finger.

Wozniacki also tweeted the great engagement news on her Twitter account. "Happy new year everyone," she wrote. "Rory and I started 2014 with a bang, I said YES," she wrote.

McIlroy certainly knows how to celebrate the New Year better and with style. What is a greater gift than having your loved one say yes to your marriage proposal? It is the same for Wozniacki. She couldn't have asked for a better gift than having her boyfriend ask her hand for marriage.

According to For the Win, McIlroy proposed to Wozniacki in Sydney, Australia as soon as the clock struck 12 midnight. Wozniacki was supposed to play for the Brisbane International but had to withdraw because of her right shoulder injury. Nonetheless, Wozniacki is still hopeful that she will be able to compete in Sydney International as well as the Australian Open.

McIlroy and Wozniacki started seeing each other in 2011. They never really hid their relationship. They were even proud to profess their love for each other though different social media Web sites. However, like any celebrity couple, they have always been bombarded with break up rumours here and there, but they have proven that their relationship are destined to last. They have always been spotted watching each other's sporting events. After dating for two and a half years, McIlroy and Wozniacki are definitely out to attest that they are headed for the altar.

McIlroy and Wozniacki have certainly decided that they have found the right person to walk down the aisle with. They have gotten to know each other, fallen in love, and declared that they want to spend the rest of their lives with each other. Congratulations to Rory and Carol!
