Rob Bironas, 36 years old, died in a car accident on Saturday night according a report by the Metro Nashville Police.

A press release via the official website of the Nashville police stated that “a single-vehicle crash” claimed the “life of former Tennesssee Titans kicker Rob Bironas” and that there was “no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene.”

“Bironas, 36, was traveling at a high rate of speed west on Battery Lane in his 2009 GMC Yukon Denali when he lost control in a curve shortly after 11 p.m. The SUV traveled off the right side of the road and struck a line of trees before it came to rest upside down in a large culvert area," stated in the full news report.

"Bironas was transported by ambulance to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The crash occurred less than a mile from Bironas’ home, where he is believed to have been heading.”

James Robert Douglas "Rob" Bironas played for the Tennessee Titans as a kicker from 2005 to 2013. The Titans cut him after last season and was trying out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions for the 2014-2015 season, according to various reports.

Bironas holds the NFL single-game record for field goals with eight made FG in a game in 2007. Bironas also holds the record for the longest field goal made (60 yards) in the Titans/Houston Oilers franchise history.

For nine seasons, Bironas kicked 239-of-279 field goals or at 85.3% success rate in his NFL career.

Bironas’ last NFL team, the Titans, also released an official statement regarding the death.

"We are deeply saddened to hear the tragic news from last night about Rob Bironas,” The Titans said in a press release.

"Rob made a significant impact as a player in his nine years with the team and more importantly touched many lives in the Nashville community off the field.”

Bironas was born in Louisville, Kentucky on January 29, 1978. He was married to Rachelle Bradshaw, daughter of ex-Pittsburgh quarterback Terry Bradshaw, last June 2014.
