The Pokemon X and Y games are now the official premier games for Nintendo's championship series. The company said it is leaving Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 behind as the official versions for the Pokemon World Championships. It also announced that its plans for the 2014 series will come into play in the U.S. in January.

This year is the first time the championships are held since the Pokemon X and Y versions were launched providing players with a chance to compete with each other for accolades. Nintendo will hold five regional events in January and the champion will receive trophies and the chance to enter the U.S. National Championships and even the World Championships 2014 which will both be held in August in Washington D.C.

The championships are for the public to join and anyone who owns a copy of Pokemon X and Y and a 3DS. The championships will also feature trading Pokemon card game competitions for gamers who don't want to play the 3DS game.

At the Pokemon Virginia Winter Regionals, hundreds of gamers from as far Florida and New York gathered to compete against each other at The Meadow Event Park. Winners get points to a slot at the World Championships. In both the video game and the card game, gamers control stables of Pokemon with which they fight against with. When a Pokemon runs out of get-up and go, it passes out, which means it is out of the game.
