An aid worker in the Philippines claims that Philippine Officials are distributing relief goods based on voting patterns after Haiyan (Yolanda) hit two provinces in the Southeast Asian nation.

The aid worker told MailOnline that there is favouritism in handing out relief goods and felt that he would "vanish" if identified.

The aid worker added, "The government is prioritizing the areas that vote for them. This is happening with all the large aid". He also said that the Philippine Government led by Benigno Aquino III, "is holding funds back and distributing on vote".

Corruption to Blame

As the Southeast Asian nation grapples with Haiyan's aftermath, analysts claim that corruption is to blame for the thousands of deaths.

NBC reports that Philippine President Benigno Aquino III, elected in 2010, rose to power for vowing to eradicate graft and corruption in the country. The said corruption in the Philippine system drains approximately around $50 billion annually, reports say.

Imelda Marcos, the Philippines's former First Lady, hails from Leyte - one of the hardest hit provinces in the storm surge. The incumbent president's mother Corazon Aquino marched with many Filipinos to topple then President Ferdinand E. Marcos's regime in 1986.

Imelda Marcos Tells Leyte "Don't Lose Hope"

Deemed as the most famous daughter of Leyte Province in the Philippines, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, was reportedly shielded by her son and daughters when news of the devastation in Leyte hit the headlines.

According to Rappler, Marcos has been "dying to go to Tacloban City" when she learned of what has happened to the place after Haiyan (Yolanda) made landfall.

Marcos was prevented by family members and her physicians to leave the hospital, reports say. Marcos however was able to write a message for the people of Leyte: "Ayaw kawang hin paglaun. Matindog kita na mga Waray" translated in English as "Don't lose hope. We, the Warays, will rise above this".

The province of Ilocos Norte where Imelda Marcos's daughter Imee Marcos is governor donated 1 million pesos to the province of Leyte. The Marcoses are currently serving Ferdinand E. Marcos's home region of Ilocos Norte.
