All eyes are on Brad Green, who was named team captain for the Australian team, for the two-match International Series against Ireland.

Green was the 1999 National Australian Football league (AFL) 2nd round draft selection of Melbourne at number 19 overall and traded by Fremantle for Troy Longmuir.

He was collectively chosen by a match committee headed by Coach Rodney Eade along with vice-captains Geelong's James Kelly, North Melbourne's Andrew Swallow and Demon James Frawley, according to a report from Yahoo Sports News.

Green led the Melbourne Demons with 55 kicked goals, including three hauls of five, and managed a goal in every game except the drawn match against Collingwood on Queen's Birthday.

He also had the most number of kicks (295) and marks (153) and won his first club best and fairest. Green may have been unsuccessful in making the All-Australian team but it did not take off the shine in an exceptional season.

Green garnered a lot of player honours These were the best and fairest 2010; 3rd best and fairest 2008; All-Australian nominee 2010; International Rules Series 2004, 2010; leading goal kicker 2010 and AFL Rising Star nominee 2000.

The International Rules series has come under a lot of pressure recently with public interest diminishing considerably because of the quality of players representing the country.

While a number of good footballers have been selected, Kelly is the only 2011 All Australian in the team and there are just five players from the AFL's top four teams, news reports stated.

However, Green brushed aside these and remained confident of the Australian's chances.

Eade mentioned that Australia would try to use its superior fitness and physical advantage but admitted that adapting to the round ball remained it's their biggest drawback.

The series starts on Friday night at the Etihad Stadium before the two teams collide again next week in the Gold Coast.
