Louis van Gaal issues more apologies and excuses after Manchester United failed to secure a victory against a newly promoted Burnley side.

The Red Devils dominated possession 64-36 per cent, but was unable to create enough opportunities to find the back of the net.

United only had 2 shots on target out of 7 attempts, while the opposition surprisingly had more crack at goal with 9, one of which unluckily hitting the woodwork.

As always, Van Gaal points to his men, despite having a squad of superior quality at his disposal, for the misfortunes suffered by United.

"At the moment it's certainly not a world-class team, but we have to wait and have belief that it will come," said the Dutch manager.

"I think that in the first half we did the same thing as Burnley, we fought."

"You have to play the ball against teams like Burnley, we did that better in the second half and created chances."

"But you have to score from those chances, and we didn't do that. It's a disappointing result."

The former Bayern Munich boss became more specific, impliedly citing Angel di Maria's lack of influence during the game as one of the reasons for the Old Trafford club's sub-par performance.

"Today, we didn't see the world-class player from Madrid, but you can't expect that yet," he added.
