The hoverboard, which was popularized by the 80s classic film, “Back to the Future,” can now be purchased from known online retailer, Halloween Costumes. Although it may look exactly like the piece that Marty McFly was using, this one does not hover.

The replica comes with hover plates installed on its bottom part, while a Velcro strap has been strategically placed on top of it, where the foot is supposed to be strapped in. In addition to that, the device also sports the 80s signature look, which is a garish pink color scheme. It looks like the real thing at first glance, but one crucial feature is it lacks the ability to hover.

Halloween Costumes’ replica was actually not the first one to come out in the market. Mattel had also launched its own back in 2012, at a price of $118.50. Despite its much higher price, as Halloween Costumes’ version is only sold at $48.88, Mattel’s product still does not hover, according to Gizmodo Toyland.

The one that Mattel made was exactly like the one that was featured in the movie. Plus, among all the hover boards that have been created, it is the only one that is officially licensed.

Moreover, just last year, Hendo Hover also made its own board that was able to successfully hover a few inches off the floor. It basically functioned quite similarly to the device that Marty McFly used in the classic film.

To date, the board can only hover whenever it is on a non-ferromagnetic conductor, which is basically a special half pipe made of copper which the company also made. Independent UK has reported that the company wants to build skate parks that have these surfaces, called Hover Houses.

The replica hoverboard that can be presently found on Halloween Costumes will turn out to be the perfect accessory for the “Back to the Future”-themed trainers from Nike that have been slated to come out later this year.
