In 1989, "Back to the Future Part II" which starred a young Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown was shown. Its main plot is about time travel with a flying DeLorean as their chosen machine to go back to the past or move forward into the future. Marty and Doc who are from the year 1985 went to the future to help fix his children's lives there. They arrived on Oct. 21, 2015 and saw flying cars as the norm as well as various high tech things such as self-lacing shoes and hovercrafts. After the New Year 2015 celebrations around the world, it's interesting to compare the 2015 in the "Back to the Future Part II" movie to the year 2015 that we are currently on.

In "Back to the Future Part II," Marty and his girlfriend Jennifer Parker (Elisabeth Shue) were able to get a glimpse of the future which was set on Oct. 21, 2015. They were amazed by what they saw there. Cars were flying like airplanes, shoes automatically tied its own laces, skateboards hovered above the ground and houses don't have doorknobs anymore because they only scan the owners' fingerprints to unlock the doors.

Unfortunately, it's now 2015 and we still don't have a lot of the things that were seen in the film. But, we do have some of the technology showcased there which seemed impossible to happen in real life back when the movie was first shown.

Some of the technology that we now enjoy in 2015, just like in "Back to the Future Part II" includes 3-D technology, biometric technology/fingerprint scanning to unlock iPhones, video calls using Skype and Apple's FaceTime, flat screen TVs, Google glass and card readers. .

If you watch "Back to the Future Part II" again, it will be funny to see them still using phone booths and fax machines which are not really used anymore due to the proliferation of the Internet, email, text messaging and mobile phones.

However, It's disappointing that flying cars which are common in futuristic films that are set in the 2000s have still not been achieved for personal transportation. Anyway, it's just the beginning of January 2015 and a lot can still happen from now until October 2015. Happy New Year!
