Google announced its much anticipated flagship Nexus 6P and mid-range Nexus 5X with the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system on board at an event in San Francisco. The search giant partnered with LG and Huawei to make the latest offerings.

The Nexus 5X starts at $349 (AU$498) while the flagship Nexus 6P comes with price tag of $499 (AU$712). Both smartphones can now be pre-ordered from Google Store in the U.S., U.K., Ireland and Japan.

The pre-orders include a $50 Play credit to help you stock up your favorite music, apps, games and shows, according to a Google press release. The elegantly designed Nexus 6P, the company’s most coveted smartphone ever, is the first all-metal body Nexus device “crafted from aeronautical-grade aluminum”. The 5.7-inch Huawei-made device sports an AMOLED display with WQHD resolution and has Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.

Powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, the Nexus 6P offers 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB of storage options with 3 GB of RAM. It houses a massive 3.450 mAh battery with USB Type - C port and will come in three colour options such as Graphite, Frost White and Aluminum.

The LG-made Nexus 5X is the successor to the Nexus 5 and sports a 5.2-inch screen with full HD display and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The Nexus 5X sports a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset with 16 GB and 32 GB storage variants and houses a 2,700mAh battery. It will be available in Carbon Black, Quartz White and Ice Blue colour options.

Both the devices feature 12.3 MP rear facing cameras that can take better images and shoot super-high-resolution 4K video and make GIF animations. Nexus 6P has an 8 MP front shooter and the smaller 5X gets a 5 MP front snapper. Google Project Fi wireless service will support both devices, which combine Wi-Fi and cellular signals to ensure constant data connection, reports CNET.

“Nexus Imprint,” Google’s version of a fingerprint sensor, will adorn both the Nexus 5X and 6P. It will help Android Pay users and give quick and secure access to the smartphones.

The phones will be available with a 90-day free subscription to Google Play Music. “Nexus Protect,” a two-year warranty covering mechanical breakdowns or accidental damage, will accompany the smartphones. It will cost $69 (AU$98) for the Nexus 5X and $89 (AU$126) for the Nexus 6P.
