David Jones on Queen Street would have a new tenant in February with the opening of American menswear retailer Brooks Brothers of a boutique store in Brisbane.

Considered the U.S.' oldest clothing retailer having been established in 1818, Brooks Brothers joins the growing number of high-end fashion brands to open a shop in Queensland.

The Brisbane store is just the first of seven Brooks Brothers outlets to open in Australia. Six more are slated to open in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, disclosed Donna Player, merchandise group executive of David Jones.

Although known for its men's apparel, Brooks Brothers also have women's clothes. The brand's suits were used in U.S. TV shows such as Mad Men and Gossip Girl and in the 2013 movie The Great Gatsby.

Its priciest dress shirts have price tags of $358, but most of its shirts listed on the online store's Web site are priced lower at $100.

Brooks Brothers, which is hiring managers and retail staff for its Australian operations, adds to the growing number of international brands that have entered the Aussie market such as Gucci, Tag Heuer, Monili (a Dubai-based jeweler) and Beautifeel, a footwear retailer.

For 2014, jeweler Cartier would launch its Edward Street store.
