U2's frontman, Bono, may never play the guitar again.

The revelation came from the rock star himself in a 6000-word letter addressed to his fans. On the band's official website, Bono has uploaded a memoir for the year gone by in an 'A to Z' fashion. "Recovery has been more difficult than I thought...As I write this, it is not clear that I will ever play guitar again," the musician shared.

Bono has faced a tumultuous year in 2014, which ended with a major accident. On Nov. 16 last year, Bono was involved in a "high energy bicycle accident" when he attempted to avoid another rider. As reported earlier, Bono's injuries were quite severe contrary to the band's earlier announcement. In fact, the accident required the popular singer to undergo reconstructive surgery that left him immobile for two months.

He had several fractures in the face and shoulder blade, while his left elbow was badly broken, which required extensive surgery using wires and plates. His pinky also got smashed, which required bone graft. Bono was injured badly in his upper back as well, which left him bedridden for a couple of months.

However, the Irish singer refused to be dragged down by the situation and even inserted humour in his letter. Referring to the day of the accident, the singer mentioned that he could not remember much about the mishap, or how he ended up in the hospital. "The real injury this year was to my Irish pride as it was discovered that under my tracksuit I was wearing yellow and black Lycra cycling shorts," wrote the 54-year-old musician. "Yes, LYCRA. This is not very rock 'n' roll."

Following the injuries he incurred, Bono cancelled all public appearances in 2015 and is focusing on his health and fitness. The band's next tour is scheduled in May, which would start from Vancouver and end in New York City in July. Bono might also join the band in the tour, but he will not be able to play the guitar for his fans and music lovers.
