Last week, BlackBerry announced that it would join hands with Google and Samsung and come up with Android security patches to Priv users, once every month. Now the Canadian company has also confirmed that it aims to roll out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its BlackBerry Priv smartphone “sometime in the new year.”

BlackBerry Priv is already on sale at retail outlets in the U.S. by AT&T. The smartphone runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and comes with a dual-touch display screen and a complete physical keyboard.

BlackBerry’s Global Director of Device Portfolio Planning, Gareth Hurn, confirmed the news in an interview with Android Central. However, Hurn did not provide any further details on the specific time frame.

The handset will come in a 30 monthly payments of US$24.67 (AU$35) with no upfront payment, reports GSM Arena. In mid-October, UK-based retailer Carphone Warehouse already listed the device for £579.99 (AU$1234).

The device features a 5.4-inch QHD AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, an 18 MP main camera, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 SoC and a 3,410 mAh battery. The company’s first smartphone running on Android operating system has also hit the stores in Canada. The official BlackBerry Priv Canadian store listed the smartphone at a hefty price of £899 (AU$1923) along with accessories.

In the meantime, LG and Motorola also came up with the details of handsets receiving the Stagefright vulnerability updates. BlackBerry Priv users would receive Android security updates over-the-air (OTA). Stagefright is a collective name of a software bug which makes about 95 percent of Android devices vulnerable to attackers.
